The Year My Voice Broke—Teletraining, 2026

collaboration with Ximena Alarcón, Julian Day, and Grupo Hipertrópico

How can we listen to our planetary present? How to hear each other across its vast distances? This telematic performance interweaves experimental music and media to explore the limits of listening in an expanding, splintering universe.

The project uses multiple tele- technologies—from telephony to telepathy to telescopes—to hear this spacetime differently. The performance enfolds and expands such teletech. It orbits the eponymous 1987 Australian film in which a young couple discovers telepathic abilities. It responds to field recordings of the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico—the site of a radio telescope that collapsed in 2020, remembered for a 1974 message beamed at a distant star cluster. And it includes a 1971 score by Pauline Oliveros that imagines interstellar musical mind-reading.
